The MCHA Library & Archives offers several services to researchers. These include obituary look-ups, genealogical research, photo reproduction, photocopies, and historical research. Details are as follows:
Genealogical Research
We offer genealogical research done in our collections only. The fee is $25 per hour, with a minimum one hour charge. This fee includes research time, photocopies, and postage. Inquiries are answered on a first-come, first-served basis, and the average turn-around time is 4-6 weeks. To take advantage of this service, please send a check or money order drawn on a U.S. bank, in U.S. dollars (international postal money orders are not accepted), payable to MCHA, along with a note detailing the information you are looking for, to:
Obituary Searches
We will look up obituaries provided you have the full date of death (day, month, year). Please note: We can only look up obituaries for Monmouth County residents in newspapers for which we have dates. Click here for a list of our newspaper holdings. If you do not have the full death date (for example, you only have the month and year, or just the year), please use our Genealogical Research service (details above). The fee for an obituary look-up with the full death date is $5 per obituary, which includes photocopies and postage. Please note we cannot guarantee we will be able to locate your obituary; fees will only be refunded if we do not have the newspaper dates necessary to check for your search. Photo Reproduction
The Library & Archives has thousands of images in our collections. Most of these are available for reproduction for publication or personal use. Images are available as digital scans and cost depends on the format and use. If there is an image in our collection you would like to use, please see our guidelines and fees or ordering images and publishing them:
Photocopies
Portions of our collections, within copyright restrictions, are available for copying. Photocopies done by patrons in-house are $0.35 each. The fee for copies we do for patrons by mail is $5 up to 10 copies, and $0.50 each additional copy over 10. This cost includes postage. Please contact us via email or by letter with the specifics of the copies you are looking for, and we will get back to you with a total charge. Please note that we will not copy large portions of or entire collections, nor entire publications.
Historical Research
