| MONMOUTH COUNTY HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION PRESENTS AN EVENING WITH ELEANOR ROOSEVELT The Monmouth County Historical Association announces its 109th Annual Meeting and Lecture to be held on Tuesday evening, January 29, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. Featured speaker will be Eleanor Roosevelt herself, as portrayed by Rene Goodwin of the American Historical Theatre. The event will be held at the Taylor-Butler House, 127 Kings Highway, Middletown. Admission is free and the public is cordially invited to attend. Eleanor Roosevelt, one of our most beloved first ladies, made her mark in a political world that had been reserved primarily for men and was able to have a great impact on national politics during a critical time in our nation’s history. Ms. Goodwin’s first-person interpretation will allow the audience to “meet” this remarkable woman and to ask her questions about her life. Last year, we learned about her early life and marriage to FDR. This year, she will continue her story and take us through the presidential and war years. This program is offered through the Horizons Speakers Bureau of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Light refreshments will be served and parking is available at nearby Middletown Village School. Admission is free but please call to register so that we can plan for seating and refreshments. Register by calling 732-462-1466. |

A second meeting having for its object the formation of a Young Men's Christian Association was held Tuesday evening. The committee appointed at the previous meeting reported a constitution which was accepted temporarily and temporary officers were elected pending a future meeting when it is hoped a larger number will be present. The temporary officers were Alex L. Moreau, president, and Almanza Crawford, secretary. A large number of names of young men who it was thought would be glad to join the new organization was suggested and those names were apportioned among those present who agreed to at once make an active canvas for charter members.
